    Sugar Content Grading (BRIX VALUE)

Sweetness, or the concentration of soluble solids is of particular importance. Commonly reported in degrees Brix, it is a key quality factor in assessing the grade of the product delivered into the processing facility. Results are used to calculate the value of the delivered fruit and are directly tied to costs and profitability. The measurement traditionally requires obtaining a representative sample from the delivered load and then juicing and analysis using a laboratory refractometer. However, the process of obtaining results can be slow and labor intensive. Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) offers a solution to this challenge. An HSI system can rapidly collect highly resolved spectral data from produce passing under the sensor. Processing this data in real time and applying statistical analysis algorithms developed by Headwall, the system delivers to the user a predicted °Brix value at the end of the scan.

Moisture Content Detection and Grading for Date Fruit

Classification schemes for a wide variety of tasks can be developed by “training” systems that are installed on the production line or installed in adjacent laboratory space. Once a “classifier” has been developed, it can be uploaded into our system to be run on the line. If a better classifier is discovered later, it can easily replace the older one. Unlike conventional grayscale or RGB color cameras, Automate and Control’s hyperspectral systems capture a wide range of the visible to near-infrared spectrum in extraordinary spectral and spatial resolution. Multispectral sensors are limited to a small selection of wavelengths, and most need their hardware and optics to be reconfigured when different wavelengths are required. With high end hyperspectral sensors our systems benefit from in-house holographic grating fabrication and spectrograph designs that optimize performance of the “spectral engine” to the job at hand capturing hundreds of wavelengths with narrow bandpasses. Using a combination of Machine Learning combined with regression modelling then deploying with Artificial Intelligence we can instantaneously quantify the moisture or BRIX content of each piece of fruit.

    Foreign Objects Detection & Removal

Automated hyperspectral detection and classification of foreign debris benefit from the very latest and fastest artificial intelligence (AI) and machine-learning algorithms. The image above shows the identification of different contaminants found when mass harvesting dates from date palms. As the dates fall to the ground and are collected in nets the fruit can also have contaminants mixed in with the good fruit as they are picked off the ground. Contaminants Include :- Stones Metals Discarded Cigarettes Plastics and strings. Wood Other parts of the Date Palm roots and stalks, plus dehydrated dates.

    Detection of Adulterated Produce

As our hyperspectral date fruit inspection systems are detecting the chemical fingerprint we can also detect the presence of either fake produce or chemical additives that have been added to the produce to improve appearance, aroma or to chance the value by rearing to be what the produce isn’t.

    Extreme accuracy Colour Sorting

Extreme accuracy Colour Sorting from the detection of chemical changes in the produce. If the produce has been heat treated the level of treatment may slightly change the colour such as overcooking, these slight changes can be detected and graded to ensure consumer satisfaction every time.

    Hyperspectral Technology

Our technology was designed from the ground up for the date industry by people who know the date fruit industry in the Middle East. bioClass was designed gently hand the fruit all the way through the process as not to damage the valuable skin on such varieties as Medjool, Reziz, Fard and Kheneizi.

    Modular Scalability

Our Date Fruit Grading systems have been designed to suit the smallest of producers to the largest fully modern date fruit sorting and packing facilities. We understand our customers are located in the most remote farms and facilities in the world, so components are designed on a plug in and play basis, with all non-essential technology omitted from the design ensuring our system can endure the most harsh working environments such as Saudi Arabia in the summer months reaching temperatures over 50 degrees centigrade.

Automate and Control LTD not only provide Industry 4.0 end to end solutions but manufacture bespoke packaging and process equipment enabling your business to evolve with the revolution.

Date Fruit Grading and Results - درجات الفاكهة والنتائج

Syrupy rich soft date, the softest and most fragile. Small to medium fruit with firm flesh and skin that turns from amber to golden brown when cured. Late ripening.

Heavy, sweet flavored soft date. Medium to large oblong soft-fleshed fruit with red skin that ripens to brown and then to black. Ripens midseason.

Sweet delicate flavored semi-dry date; known for its “true” date flavor. Medium to large fruit with a skin that turns from amber to deep brown as it ripens. Good for cooking. Name means “date of the light”. Late ripening.

Also Halawi. Sweet honey-flavored soft date. Halawy means “sweet.” Small to medium fruit with bright golden brown skin and tender flesh. Good for eating out of hand. Ripens midseason.

Rich, not overly sweet, flavored soft date. Medium to large oblong fruit with orange-brown to light-brown skin and firm flesh. Considered among the best in flavor and texture for eating fresh. Does not keep well so eat fresh, Ripens mid-season.

Also Medjul. Rich, deliciously sweet soft date with little fibrous texture. Large to very large fruit with amber to reddish-brown skin as it ripens and cures. Excellent for eating fresh, very moist. Early ripening.

Sweet, nutty flavored dry date. Known as the bread date because it is suited to baking. Medium to large oblong fruit with golden-brown flesh. Late ripening.

Sweet sugary flavored semi-dry date. Medium sized fruit with smooth, glossy skin and golden-yellow, meaty flesh full of syrup. Use for eating out of hand or cooking. Keeps well and very good for baking. Early ripening.

Fard or Fardh is a type of date that Oman is famous for. It has a small seed, a tender skin, a sweet flavor and its skin is dark brown.
