Seed producers are then not packing and shipping potentially underperforming seeds to growers in turn optimising their packaging and supply chain resources.

A huge and current threat to food security can be the very testing procedures set out to protect the consumer itself. As most food safety testing is expensive, time consuming and can only be carried out in labs. Daily whole container shipment are returned to their point of origin due to the failure of small samples to meet these criteria. The waste can be 40 tons plus in each shipment.

This enables producers to only send the freshest unprocessed produce to the consumer ensuring the longest shelf life thus reducing household waste and all other associated waste, packaging, shipping, energy etc.
Once graded, produce that is perfect in quality but may not survive the supply chain can then be redirected into other long life uses for example chopped and frozen, or used in prepacked ready meals that go through the shelf life extending retort process.
